Traffic Memorials in Maryland

Dalrymple RdIn Maryland it has become custom for friends and relatives to place memorials where friends and loved ones have died in traffic accidents. Memorials may be simple and others rather ornate. Some memorials are maintained and others are allowed to decay and vanish as the memory of the event fades or families and friends move on.

One would hope that the placement of these roadside memorials would contribute to traffic safety. The message to the living is that you too could die here. Sadly, the memorials seem to have little effect. Perhaps if memorials are placed on this map as well the reckless among us will have a change of heart and drive carefully.

Would you like to contribute to this memorial? Please send a photo if you have it with location and description of monument. Facts surrounding the crash with names of victims would be helpful. Even if all you have is memorial location we can go out and take the photo. ALL locations in Maryland are welcome. Use our contact page to send us you information. We will be in contact with you regarding the photo. Please do get involved in this simple project. Let’s remember these people.

Remember these are memorials to dead citizens killed in tragic crashes in our state. Each roadside memorial should remind us to drive defensively, safely, and with great care. When you see a roadside memorial let it be a stern reminder to you that you are not immortal and that driving can kill when done in a negligent and reckless manner.

(Use the Google Maps map zoom control to zoom in or out when viewing the map.)

Some Notes

  • Some memorials may no longer exist.
  • Some are kept up and others decay.
  • Each represents the tragic loss of life that did not have to happen.
  • Map locations taken from news reports may not have memorials.
  • Some facts may no longer be available or are unknown to us.

  1. Memorials marked as News are “virtual.” The event is shown on the map but a roadside memorial may not exist.
